Gibt es nicht mit "Standing On The Beach" und "Galore" schon eine komplette Singlescollection von The Cure? Jetzt liegt also auch noch eine "Greatest Hits" vor, die quasi die Schnittmenge der beiden Single-Collections bildet - eine Art "Best of the Best". Und das rechtzeitig zum Weihnachtsgeschäft - wie erstaunlich. Schön auch, dass Robert Smith, der bleiche Frontmann von Cure, die Songauswahl selber vorgenommen hat. Die Frage bleibt, was soll der Scherz?
Ok, zwei bislang unveröffentlichte Werke, "Cut Here" und "Just Say Yes", wovon erstere als neue Single ausgekoppelt wurde, beinhaltet die "Greatest Hits. Beide sind ganz hübsch und auf einem neuen Album wären sie gut aufgehoben.
Ok, The Cure haben eine Reihe fantastischer Singles veröffentlicht - und "A Forest", "Boys Don't Cry", "Lullaby" oder "Close To Me" - um nur einige zu nennen - sind wahrlich Klassiker.
Ok, die limitierte Auflage als Doppel-CD mit allen Songs im akkustischen unplugged Gewand klingt zunächst nach einem Leckerbissen für Fans. Mehr als ein müdes "ganz nett" erweckt das schlappe Konzept allerdings auch nicht.
Die sogenannte "Greatest Hits" ist eine unvollständige und fragwürdige Singlescollection. Von den Klassikeralben "Pornography" und "Faith" fehlt beispielsweise jede Spur.
Wer aus einem unerfindlichen Grund The Cure noch nicht kennen sollte, oder eben nur nach einem guten Weihnachtsgeschenk sucht, dem empfehle ich entweder die beiden Singlescollections (dürften inzwischen als Nice Price erhältlich sein) oder eines ihrer ersten neun Studioalben. Der Plattenfirma hingegen lege ich nahe, mal lieber über eine B-Seiten-Collection nachzudenken…
