yoshimi battles the pink robots
Leicht machen sie es der geneigten Hörerin und dem geneigten Hörer nicht, die Flaming Lips mit ihren neo-psychedlischen Kompositionen. Da zirpt und blubbert es, da zwitschert es in endlosen Loops: auf „Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots“ lassen die Flaming Lips ein ganzes Sammelsurium von elektronischen Soundeffekten niederprasseln.
Mit ihrem zwölften Album (zählt man die Compilations mit) gehen die Flaming Lips gerade im Vergleich zu ihrem hochgelobten Vorgänger „The Soft Bulletin“ noch einen Schritt weiter in Richtung abgedrehten Psychopop. Und man sollte sich ruhig darauf einlassen, denn die Flaming Lips sind wirklich Meister des Songwritings. Wunderschöne, mal melancholisch, mal geradezu glückliche - definitiv aber immer hypnotische Melodien zaubern sie auf das Album und beweisen, weshalb die seit 1983 bestehende Band eine so große Fanbase hat! Die Zeile „It's Summertime and I can understand if you still feel sad - It's Summertime and though it's hard to see it's true possibilities“ bringt vielleicht die Stimmung des Albums auf den Punkt. „Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots“ ist eines der besten psychodelischen Alben der letzten Jahre, UFO-Musik für die Popkultur, nicht leblos und robotisierend, sondern schlichtweg ein kleines schönes Meisterwerk.
